Federal Incentives

All federal benefits apply to entities in Nevada.

State Incentives

Property Tax Exemption

Nevada offers a 100% property tax exemption for the added value of solar energy systems. Installing a solar system will not increase your property's assessed value for tax purposes. (LINK)

Sales Tax Reduction

Nevada provides a reduced sales tax rate of 2.6% (down from the standard 6.85%) for the purchase of solar panels and related equipment. (LINK)

Solar Rights Law

Nevada's Solar Rights statute prevents restrictive covenants from prohibiting solar installations on residential rooftops. (LINK)

Utility Incentives

Net Metering

Nevada requires utilities to offer net metering for systems up to 1 megawatt (MW). For residential customers, systems typically under 25 kW qualify. Excess energy produced by solar panels is credited at 75% of the retail rate, and unused credits roll over to the next billing cycle. (LINK)

NV Energy Storage Incentive

NV Energy offers an upfront storage incentive for homeowners who add a battery to their solar panel system. The incentive depends on the size of the battery and whether you're on a Time-of-Use (TOU) rate plan. (LINK)

Additional Considerations for Nonprofits

Under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022, tax-exempt organizations such as nonprofits are now eligible to receive a direct payment equal to 30% of their solar installation cost, effectively mirroring the federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC).

Summary

Nevada offers a combination of federal incentives, state tax exemptions, net metering, and utility-level incentives to make solar energy a viable and beneficial investment for individuals, businesses, and nonprofits.
