The Surge Project Lifecycle

Every clean energy project in Surge follows a structured, transparent process from lead submission to installation and commission payout. This article outlines that process step by step.

Overview

The Surge Project Lifecycle is the backbone of how business flows through the platform. It allows Scouts, Strategists, Mentors, EPCs, and financing partners to collaborate smoothly within a unified system - ensuring that no project stalls, gets lost, or is mishandled.

Each stage of the lifecycle represents a clear milestone. Completing these steps accurately keeps projects moving forward and guarantees that commissions are paid on time. This lifecycle ensures that each opportunity is qualified properly, executed efficiently, and tracked from start to finish for all members and partners involved.

Lifecycle Stages

1. Lead Submission

A Scout or Strategist submits a qualified lead through the Surge Lead Entry Portal.
Required information includes contact details, business type, property address, and basic energy usage or facility information. Leads are automatically logged into the Surge CRM for review.

2. Lead Qualification

The Surge team verifies that the opportunity meets minimum commercial criteria, including property ownership, creditworthiness, and technical feasibility. Qualified leads are assigned to the appropriate Mentor and EPC partner for initial evaluation.

3. Site Evaluation & Data Collection

Once qualified, the EPC conducts a site assessment, collects utility data, and reviews structural or electrical parameters. This data informs system design and helps create an accurate proposal and scope of work.

4. Proposal Development

The Strategist and Mentor collaborate with the EPC to prepare a professional proposal using approved Surge tools (e.g., OpenSolar). The proposal outlines system design, pricing, incentives, financing options, and projected savings. Mentor review and approval are required before client delivery.

5. Client Presentation

The Strategist (and Mentor, if applicable) presents the proposal to the client.
Key goals are to educate, answer questions, and confirm that the proposed solution meets the client’s energy and financial goals. When the client agrees to move forward, a Letter of Intent (LOI) or contract is executed.

6. Contracting & Permitting

Once the LOI or contract is signed, the project enters the contracting phase.
The EPC finalizes design documents and submits them for local permitting and AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) review. Financing or payment terms are confirmed at this stage.

7. Installation

The EPC installs the approved system, following all safety and quality standards.
Surge monitors progress and updates the project status in real time within the dashboard. Members can track milestones, such as installation date, inspection scheduling, and closeout.

8. Inspection & Commissioning

After installation, local authorities inspect and approve the system. Once approved, the system is energized (“turned on”) and enters the operational phase. Surge confirms project completion and prepares for funding and payout.

9. Funding Confirmation

The EPC or financing partner verifies that payment has been received for the project.
Funding confirmation triggers the internal commission review and payment release process.

10. Commission Release

After documentation and funding verification, commissions are processed for all eligible members (Scout, Strategist, Mentor, etc.). Payments are issued via ACH transfer and can be viewed in your Earnings → Commissions dashboard.
