Purpose
Mentors play a critical leadership role in the Surge ecosystem. They ensure that projects are qualified, proposals are accurate, Strategists are supported, and clients receive a professional, high-integrity experience from start to finish.
The purpose of the Mentor role is to maintain quality control, provide hands-on support to Strategists, and uphold Surge’s operational and ethical standards. Mentors act as both coaches and gatekeepers - helping their teams grow while ensuring every project meets Surge’s compliance and performance criteria.
Core Responsibilities
Project Oversight
Mentors review every project submitted by their downline Strategists to ensure that:
All lead information is complete and accurate
The opportunity meets Surge’s qualification standards
Energy usage, property details, and financial readiness are verified
EPC partners receive the proper information for pricing and design
Mentors must confirm project readiness before advancing it to proposal stage.
Proposal Review and Approval
Before any proposal is shared with a client, the Mentor must:
Review the design, pricing, and system scope
Verify the use of approved Surge templates and presentation materials
Confirm that the proposal includes accurate savings and production data
Ensure that no unauthorized changes or claims are included
Once approved, the Mentor provides a “ready to present” confirmation so the Strategist can deliver the proposal with confidence.
Compliance and Documentation
Mentors are responsible for making sure that:
All LOIs, contracts, and proposals are signed and uploaded correctly
All required documentation (utility data, site photos, etc.) is attached
Any financing or partner forms are complete and legible
The Strategist adheres to all Surge policies, including confidentiality, ethical marketing, and non-circumvention
Incomplete or inaccurate files may delay project progression and commission eligibility.
Performance Support and Coaching
Beyond oversight, Mentors serve as performance coaches for their teams.
They should:
Help Strategists improve their qualification and presentation skills
Provide constructive feedback after client meetings
Encourage consistent communication and follow-through
Support team members in achieving advancement milestones
Strong mentorship not only ensures project success but also builds a high-performing, self-sustaining sales network.
Communication and Collaboration
Mentors are expected to maintain open, transparent communication with:
Their Strategist team members
Assigned EPC and financing partners
Surge operations and leadership teams
Mentors should document key interactions within the Surge platform to maintain alignment and visibility across all stakeholders.
Accountability
Mentors are ultimately accountable for the accuracy, compliance, and performance of the projects under their supervision.
Failure to properly review or oversee projects may result in:
Withholding or forfeiture of override commissions
Temporary suspension of Mentor status
Additional training or review by Surge leadership
Mentors who demonstrate consistent excellence may be invited to participate in Surge leadership programs, advisory councils, or advanced earning opportunities.
Best Practices
Hold regular 1:1 check-ins with your Strategists
Review project dashboards weekly for updates and bottlenecks
Use clear communication templates when giving feedback
Celebrate wins and progress publicly within your team
Lead by example - modeling compliance, professionalism, and consistency
