Leadership Pathways: Becoming a Mentor

This guide explains what it means to become a Mentor, how to qualify, and what expectations come with the role.

Updated over 2 months ago

Purpose

The Mentor program exists to reward experienced Strategists who consistently demonstrate excellence in project execution, leadership, and compliance. Mentors are trusted partners of the company - bridging the gap between the sales force and Surge’s internal operations.

The Mentor tier represents leadership, experience, and stewardship within Surge. Mentors guide Strategists through projects, uphold company standards, and ensure that Surge’s growth is built on quality, integrity, and collaboration.

What a Mentor Does

Mentors serve as both coaches and quality controllers across the sales network.
They ensure that every project meets Surge’s standards while helping Strategists grow in skill, confidence, and consistency.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and approving proposals before client delivery

  • Supporting Strategists during deal presentations and closings

  • Ensuring all documentation and qualification criteria are met

  • Maintaining communication with Surge operations and build teams

  • Providing ongoing feedback and performance coaching to their team

Mentor Qualifications

To qualify for the Mentor program, a member must:

  • Be an active Strategist in good standing with Surge

  • Demonstrate consistent project activity and professionalism

  • Complete Mentor onboarding and training modules

  • Pass compliance review for documentation and communication standards

  • Receive a formal invitation or nomination from Surge leadership

Once approved, Mentors gain access to exclusive leadership tools, dashboards, and commission overrides based on team performance.

Advancement Pathway

Becoming a Mentor is both a milestone and a stepping stone.
Members advance through three primary phases:

Phase

Title

Focus

1

Strategist

Learn, close projects, follow mentorship

2

Senior Strategist

Demonstrate consistent project flow and accuracy

3

Mentor

Lead and train others, ensure quality control

Mentors may later be invited to join Surge’s Executive Team or Advisory Council based on performance and leadership contribution.

Compensation & Overrides

Mentors earn a commission split on co-closed deals with newer Strategists. Mentors also earn a revenue share on all qualified projects completed by their direct team members. This percentage is detailed in the official Compensation & Qualification Plan and tied to verified project funding.

Overrides are paid once all project milestones are complete, and funding and commission reconciliation are confirmed.

Compliance Expectations

Mentors are held to the highest standard of professionalism and accountability.

They must:

  • Maintain confidentiality and data integrity

  • Represent Surge accurately and ethically at all times

  • Uphold leadership communication and reporting requirements

Violations may result in loss of Mentor status, suspension, or other corrective action.

Leadership Values

Mentorship within Surge is rooted in three core values:

Value

Service

Lead by helping others succeed first.

Integrity

Always model honesty, professionalism, and compliance.

Excellence

Uphold quality and accountability in every deal.

Mentors embody these values daily - serving as examples of what it means to build with purpose and integrity.
