Mentorship Responsibilities & Best Practices

This guide outlines the key responsibilities of Mentors and the best practices for leading effectively within the Surge platform.

Purpose

Mentorship is the foundation of Surge’s culture. Every Strategist who succeeds at Surge does so with the support and guidance of a Mentor who’s invested in their growth, consistency, and confidence.

This article is to help Mentors (or aspiring Mentors) understand how to guide, train, and empower their Strategists while maintaining compliance, alignment, and professional standards across all projects and communications.

Mentorship at Surge isn’t about authority - it’s about service, support, and shared success.

Core Responsibilities of a Mentor

1. Oversight and Quality Control

Mentors ensure that every deal submitted by their team meets Surge’s standards for accuracy, compliance, and professionalism. They review:

• Lead qualification details
• Proposal accuracy and pricing integrity
• Documentation completeness (LOI, contracts, utility data, etc.)
• Project updates and communication with clients

Mentors act as a second set of eyes before anything reaches a client or EPC partner.

2. Skill Development and Coaching

Mentors are responsible for helping their Strategists grow in knowledge, confidence, and performance. Provide feedback and guidance on:

  • How to identify and qualify strong opportunities

  • How to deliver effective presentations

  • How to handle objections and follow-up professionally

  • How to maintain accurate documentation and organization

A great Mentor doesn’t just correct - they coach.

3. Accountability and Communication

Mentors hold their Strategists accountable to their commitments, activity goals, and conduct. Best practices include:

  • Regular 1:1 check-ins or group calls

  • Reviewing project pipelines weekly

  • Offering encouragement and constructive feedback

  • Addressing compliance or behavior issues quickly and privately

Clear communication prevents confusion and builds lasting trust.

4. Collaboration and Escalation

Mentors serve as the bridge between the sales network and Surge’s internal operations. They should:

  • Collaborate with Surge leadership on major deals or partner opportunities

  • Escalate unresolved system or payout issues to [email protected]

  • Share training or resource needs with Surge’s leadership team

When Mentors communicate effectively, the whole network benefits.

5. Modeling the Surge Standard

Mentors represent the highest level of professionalism within Surge. They lead by example - through consistent activity, positivity, and alignment with company values. Mentors must always:

  • Abide by all Policies & Procedures and Code of Conduct

  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance

  • Use approved templates, branding, and processes

  • Avoid negativity, gossip, or unverified information

  • Reinforce team unity and collaboration

A Mentor’s words set the tone - for the team, and for the company.
